Doubles-Trains
Many of the states and provinces that allow extended weight also allow doubles (two trailers pulled with one power unit). Most of those US states use A-Trains (the two trailers are connected together with a converter dolly in-between). B-Trains are used in a couple US states and most of the Canadian provinces (the lead trailer has an extended frame with a 5th wheel to allow the rear trailer to connect directly to the lead unit). Few states or provinces agree on lengths, number of axles, weight allowed per axle or maximum gross weight.Because of that SmithCo has developed a large selection of A & B train configurations from 6 to 15 axle combinations.
